In the 2020 fall conference of the Korean Sensors Society, Hyunsik Kim and Youngdo Shin won the Best Paper Award. The awarded paper title is "Screen-printed carbon-MXene based flexible biosensor for wearable real-time glucose monitoring".
Measuring glucose level in sweat is more simple and user friendly rather than traditional method. Glucose level in sweat has strong correlation with blood glucose concentration but it is approximately 5–20 % lower than blood. For this reason, it is highly important to develop a glucose sensor for detecting the low glucose concentration. In this study, the glucose sensor was developed using MXene-Ti3C2TX that can provide functional groups such as F-, O-, OH-. In addition, by directly immobilizing the enzyme on platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) using coupling agent, the sensitivity was much improved compared to using only MXene-Ti3C2TX. Figure (a) and (b) show a schematic illustration and optical images of the fabricated flexible glucose sensor, respectively. Figure (c) and (d) show amperometric response of the glucose concentration of 0 mM to 1.5 mM and linear regression curve, where R2 was calculated to 0.999, respectively. Figure (e) depicts its amperometric response. Limit of detection (signal-to-noise ratio was = 3) was calculated to 4.7 μM. Figure (f) indicates amperometric response of the glucose and interferences such as ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA), where the glucose sensor is remarkably selective opposite to the interferences.
